This workshop, was held as part of the CESP project, Tackling the spatial challenge in the Southern Cone through georeferencing training. Originally planned for April 2020, as a replica of the Argentinian workshop held in December 2019, this workshop was adapted for a 100% virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 39 students participated in the workshop.
The objective of the workshop was that the participants managed to generate high-quality geo-referenced localities, in order to be added to the corresponding biodiversity records. For this, the following objectives were proposed:
- Know the basic geographic concepts for georeferencing
- Know the terms of the DarwinCore standard related to georeferencing
- Become familiar with locality descriptions and associated best practices
- Know the fundamentals and basics of georeferencing methods
- To apply these methods to georeference localities and with online queries
An e-learning workshop site was set up on the Argentinian platform for students to find workshop pre-course, course and post-course materials.
